The Natural World of Racism

I remember a lot Anti-antisemitism as well as anti-black comments growing up on Long Island. My father was an Irish-Catholic living in Protestant Scotland that is why he came to this country where he hoped there would be a little less prejudice and always said don’t put anyone else down for you could be next. I don’t understand people who came from ancestors that suffered prejudice could turn around and do it to others.
I believe there are two kinds of people on this planet those that are openly racist and those that at least try to hide it.  I think it is a matter of survival to protect your family and to extend that to your race, ethic group, nationality, and even into religion or beliefs.
Humans have learned to control other emotions that they might have, why can’t they learn to get along with people that are not like them.  The United States has many different kinds of people with different cultures that mix is what makes America great. It might not look like it now, but I think all human societies will evolve into one great global Society.

Great South Bay adventure in April of 1955

Article from Newsday April 6th 1955 issue
The writer took a lot of writer’s License in writing this story and got some of the facts wrong. Botz did not live on Carlton (Carleton) Ave, but on Bordette Place. We did not bring the rowboat around to the cabin and it was not washed out to sea. We did lite some grass torches, but had been spotted before we lite them and it was day light when we lit the torches. We had spotted the Coast Guard they heard our yells for help. Another thing is that Rex Botz’s dog was not with us this time. They did get some of the facts right

It was my luck that in April when I was talking to a couple of friends Botz and Woody who also lived near us. I told them about the hunter's cabin and they decided that they wanted to see it. So we took a row boat out to the first island and walked across a sallow between the islands finally getting to the hunter's cabin after looking around we returned to the boat only to find that someone had taken our oars and anchor it was getting late so we went back to the cabin. We started a fire in the potbelly stove found some canned soup and went to bed in the cabin's bunk beds. Our families of course became alarmed, it seems that Woody's Father took his cabin courser out to look for us and came up to the cabin, but we were all asleep. So not hearing anything he left. The next morning, we decided to walk back to the boat when a Coast Guard boat picked us up. We almost got a helicopter ride but it couldn't land for the island was just marshland, a helicopter ride would have made it almost worth it. My father said he wasn't worried because he could see our row boat and he figured that we were on the island.  Actually we should have taken the boat around the islands to the cabin, but we didn’t so I go my second adventure of the year. All the Newspapers came for more pictures and stories. The Herald Tribune also did a human interest story with pictures of kids jumping off the docks.

Why if you suffered make others suffer?

I remember a lot Anti-antisemitism as well as anti-black comments growing up on Long Island. Who is smart and who isn’t

I know that history is filled with what really big thinkers have said about this subject for thousands of years so I think it is time for someone who just wishes they could be as smart gave their thoughts of what makes someone smart and what the hell is smart anyway.

The more education one gets the more facts that are thrown at him/her, some are able to use those facts and learn from the mistakes of those that came before us. They advance the Society they live in through their talents There are others that go through the higher education system to become doctors and even run for president of the USA, but when the talk about history or the bible they get facts that a grade school student knows is wrong. So my guess is that facts are useless without reasoning power. You have to use logical reasoning power to know which fact are probably true and which are probably false. It seems that some people have reasoning power and some don’t which brings up the question are people born with Logical Reasoning Power or is it learned as they grow up?

50 years later Selma march Continues

In 1965 I was in the US Army at Fort Benning Georgia where they were suddenly giving us riot training and in March of that year they woke us up early in the morning and load us up on trucks with barbwire on the front of it. We never went anywhere, but I was always wondered what that was all about. Now I realize that it must have been the march on Selma.

Even with all the reforms that have happen since 1965 and the improvement in communications people seem more misinformed than ever. Civil right leaders of today are hated not only in the south, in the whole country.  People just asking for justice for  blacks are called all sort of names it can only be hoped that future generations will be more educated so has to change the culture of this and many other countries.

Obama's Selma speech was his best ever, if only people would listen. It should be replayed just before November 2016 so people who tend not to vote therefore giving their power away maybe will listen to him and vote.

Brian William’s War story

A lot of people especially Vets seen to be upset that he exaggerated his story to sound like the helicopter that he was in was hit by ground fire when it was the helicopter in front on him.  Now I don’t care if he was shot at or not, but it seem a lot who served do, but what I remember from my time in the service is that some soldiers were exaggerating even before they left the service. Now I am sure once they left they turned honest about their service.

If as Brain said they were flying in formation wasn’t the people on the ground shooting at all the helicopters, but just hit one so his story isn’t that far off. Why is such hate for a mere broadcaster? Maybe they are just needed a new person for their hate, the hate of the month.

Police facing dangerous persons

The police of Ferguson and Saint Louis on confronting black teenagers that they thought might be threatening to them, so they emptied the pistols into the black teenagers. It seems to me that they panicked which I might have done myself in that situation.  Unlike me the police are supposed to be trained to handle dangerous situations.  The officers in Saint Louis were said to have tasers that could have just stunned him and he would be alive. I guess the police are use to using their pistols and don’t trust their tasers.

The police culture seems to be them against blacks because black commit most of the petty crimes, but it’s always been that petty crimes are commit by the poor.  It is true that not all poor are black, a higher percentage of the blacks are poor than the whites if the police didn’t find it easier to pick on the blacks they would come after the poor whites and Hispanics.

So I think the answer is better equipped and trained police as well as better educated populous. This might mean higher taxes for everyone; it would be well worth it to live in a safe and free country again.
